Kate Greenway gives SCSU sophomore Phia Vang a tarot card reading Tuesday in the Atwood Lobby as one of the events for Snow Daze.
The University Program Board knew it would be a hit when they planned Snow Daze, a week full of events for SCSU students.
On the snowiest day of the year, what could've been better for students than warming up in Atwood with hot chocolate and hot apple cider Monday afternoon?
"Special Events (committee) wanted to do something in the winter since most of our events are in the spring and fall," said Megan Osborne, member of UPB Special Events Committee.
This is the second year SCSU has had Snow Daze, a week of winter events. The different committees that SCSU's UPB consists of all came together to plan this event.
Sunday night the Concert Committee presented The Big Wu for students and fans around the area.
"There was a great turnout and everyone looked like they were having a blast," said Karyn Heckendorn, SCSU student.
Monday night, there was a spoken word performance by Chris Longoria, put on by the Literary Arts Committee.
For students who needed a break between classes Tuesday, the Special Events Committee held "Snow Break" from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the Atwood main lounge. Students were able to get caricatures, palm and tarot card readings and temporary tattoos. The student organizations set up in Atwood Memorial Center were happy to get the extra shuffle of students that "Snow Break" events brought in.
Later Tuesday night, the national events committee presented Martin Luther King III in the Atwood Ballroom.
Wednesday, Live at Lunch with Tamara Bedricky was held in the Atwood Quarry 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and Battle of the Unsigned Bands took place at 7 p.m. in the Atwood Ballroom. All of the bands consist of SCSU students.
Thursday night, at 7 p.m. "Bowling for Columbine," a film by Michael Moore will be shown in Ritsche Auditorium. Additional screenings will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 8 p.m. at Atwood Theatre.
Now that there is finally snow, UPB is having snow sculptures in the Atwood Mall Thursday, and a ski trip to Powder Ridge from 3 p.m.-6 p.m. Friday.
"With all the snow my car won't start so I'm glad there's so much fun stuff going on around campus," said Jess Mead, SCSU student.
