Man killed in snowmobile accident
A Ramsey man is dead after a snowmobile accident late Sunday morning in Sherburne County.

The Sherburne County Sheriff's office said 27-year-old Philip Hanson was snowmobiling with three other people. They were traveling east on 253rd Ave. in Orrock Township about a mile east of County Road Five.

The group encountered a gated road. The other three riders were able to avoid the gate, but Hanson's snowmobile crashed into it and overturned. The accident happened around 11:40 a.m.

Authorities said there is no indication that alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Woman gets billed for rape evidence
It took two years and a lot of pleading for a Sauk Rapids woman to avoid paying a hospital for collecting evidence of her sexual assault.

Tara Woolery said that only after she complained did Stearns County pay the $595 bill on Sunday.

Her two-year struggle illustrated the problems with a state law that requires counties to pay exam costs for sexual assaults. Interpretations vary from county to county, sometimes leaving the bill for victims to pay.

In Stearns County, reasons for denials include uncooperative victims, the exam was not done to gather evidence, the assault happened in another county or no criminal sexual conduct occurred.
