Students shop, sell online
By Julie Cronk
Upon its arrival in September 1995, eBay.com has not only been the source of freedom powered buying and selling techniques, but it has also caught the eyes of over 49.7 million users.
The world's online marketplace is the industry leader when it comes to auctioning everything from electronics to automobiles. Due to its flexible market, the eBay company enables diverse trade among any local, national and international border. That is why more and more people from all ages and cultures are turning away from the traditional marketplace and heading to a more prominent and growing community of buyers and sellers online.
"EBay gives me a chance to find items that I normally cannot find here in the United States," said Chris Ohland, student at SCSU. "That is why I turn to eBay to find clothes and shoes that I am interested in from other countries."
Ohland is only one of the millions of eBay users that take advantage of this global community. EBay.com is found specifically in 11 different countries and represents many more all over the world. It is not uncommon for a potential buyer from Australia to purchase an item from a seller in China, or any other part of the world.
"I am always looking for good deals," said professor Jennifer Slack of the Marketing Department. "That may be why I am just starting to get interested in eBay.com, that site has a lot to offer."
Of course, there are always two sides to every story. One of the disadvantages to using eBay.com over traditional shopping, is that there is a waiting period. Another drawback is that the customer does not get to see his or her purchases in person, only via photographs.
