Men's hockey team ties UW Friday, but falls short Saturday thanks to Rene Bourque

As the WCHA race for home ice hit its stretch run, the Huskies looked as if they had a tasty schedule in front them.
But the University of Wisconsin refused to roll over at the Kohl Center in Madison, as they tied the Huskies 2-2 Friday night and used a Rene Bourque game-winner with less than a minute to go to win 4-3 Saturday night. The loss held SCSU to only one point for the weekend.
Friday the Huskies were held to a season low 19 shots on-goal by an aggressive Badger team.
Brock Hooton earned his first goal of the year when a Wisconsin defender actually knocked it past goaltender Bernd Bruckler to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead.
Rene Bourque answered eight minutes later to tie the game and give him his team-leading 15th goal off a rebound from teammate Eric Jensen.
The Badgers 7.8 percent (WCHA's worst) power play unit then showed up when Brad Winchester fired one off Moreland's glove to gain a 2-1 lead going into the third period.
Sophomore Mike Doyle then tied the game up for good off a Peter Szabo pass with 8:30 remaining.
Saturday the Huskies used two goals from junior Matt Hendricks and one from captain Jon Cullen to take a 3-2 lead going into the third period.
But UW's Joe Simon tied the game with a shot through Moreland's five-hole. Bourque would hit the same spot as he cherry-picked behind the Husky defensemen, leaving himself alone with Moreland. The Badger victory was their first in 19 games when trailing after two periods and their fifth conference win this season.
The Huskies are now alone in the seventh spot in the WCHA standings at 23 points with eight points possible in their next two series against Alaska-Anchorage and the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.
The University of Minnesota- Duluth and Denver are tied for the fifth spot with 27 points apiece after UMD was swept by the Gophers and Denver by Michigan Tech.
