Laziness is not an excuse
By Andy Rennecke

I know I've done this before. Well a lot actually.
I also know that my colleagues who cover the SCSU men's basketball team have done it as well.
So, why aren't more SCSU students attending men's basketball games at Halenbeck Hall? Where are all of you? Have you been hibernating along with the rest of St. Cloud and not noticed that your Huskies have just won the NCC and are about to host the Wells Fargo NCC tournament this weekend?
Here is my final plea of the year to all of the lazy curmudgeons out there who've never seen, or even been to Halenbeck before: go there on Friday and see one of the best basketball teams to ever grace this campus.
If you claim to be a basketball fan, or even have a remote interest in the sport, GO! What's stopping you? The answer would be nothing.
While attendance has increased this year for Saturday night games, there are still noticeable gaps in the bleachers and even on the lower levels at Halenbeck. It's time to fill up the gym to its 6,927 seating capacity.
The biggest crowd of the year has been 4,623 on Feb. 15 against UND. Husky basketball fans, and myself, would love nothing more than to see Halenbeck full of people come Friday night in SCSU's semifinal matchup against NDSU.
The best time to see this possible miracle occur is now. It's March, and the team needs a home-court advantage now more than ever. With the decibel level already approaching eardrum shattering levels with 4,000 people in attendance, just think of what it would be like with 7,000 fans.
While covering the team these past two years I've been to every NCC arena, minus UND's Hyslop and Nebraska-Omaha's Sapp Fieldhouse. The only venue that exceeds Halenbeck's atmosphere is SDSU's Frost Arena in Brookings. It's time to surpass Frost and make Halenbeck Hall No. 1 on the list.
