Huskies ready to move on from Missouri

"I think that we've visited Missouri one too many times."
This was the sentiment of junior pitcher Nicole Webb after the Husky softball team traveled to Missouri for the second straight weekend.
In SCSU's first trip, they went a perfect 7-0 and were looking to duplicate that this past weekend at the Northwest Missouri State University Classic. The Huskies, who were scheduled to play both Saturday and Sunday, ended up playing only two games Sunday due to adverse weather conditions. They came out of the weekend with a split.
Truman State was the first opponent for the Huskies Sunday. In the Huskies' previous trip to the Show-Me State, they beat Truman 5-4. Truman was looking for some revenge and they found it as they shutout the Huskies 4-0. Truman put all of their runs on the board in the fourth inning and SCSU just couldn't respond.
"I think we had the big target on our heads from the weekend before," Webb said. "We basically showed everybody up."
"Truman is a tough team," head coach Paula U'Ren said about the loss. "They got some runs on the board in the fourth and we left some runners on base."
The second team on the bill for SCSU was Central Missouri State University. The Huskies took care of CMSU in five innings in their last trip, winning by using the 10-run rule, 10-0.
"We had beaten Central so badly that they wanted to come out and get us," Webb said.
They didn't get the Huskies, but they kept it exciting as SCSU prevailed 3-2. St. Cloud didn't get any runs until the sixth inning when Webb brought in two runners on a double to tie the game at two.
Sophomore outfielder Cally Stewart was the hero of the game as she brought in fellow senior outfielder, Amy Anderson, on a single that shot through the left side of Central Mizzou's defense for the game-winning run.
The overall SCSU record stands at 18-8 as they completed the first part of their season. They've spent over four weeks on the road and traveled to four states. SCSU will now begin inter-state play as they travel to Winona State for a twinbill Thursday. They'll play their NCC-opener Saturday when they go to Minnesota State University, Mankato for a doubleheader. They'll also play their home opener Sunday at Selke Field in a doubleheader with Concordia-St. Paul.
"We're excited to play at home and sleep in our own beds," U'Ren said.
"We're going to play some good teams from the Northern Sun and also Mankato, whose had a good start to the season."
"We're excited to have some fans and to play at our own field," Webb said. "Even playing at Mankato feels like playing at home for us."
This week is also big for the Huskies because they feel it's the start of a new season and they have something to prove.
"It's a checkpoint for us," Webb said. "We have a totally new attitude, a new half of the season and a new month. We're really looking forward to these next games to prove ourselves."
Either way, the Huskies are looking to get it cranked up this week and prove to the other NCC teams, and the nation that they weren't overrated.
