Woman sues over mistaken mastectomy A woman whose breasts were removed after she was mistakenly told she had cancer is suing the pathologist who made the misdiagnosis and the pathologist's employer.
Linda McDougal of Woodville, Wisc., filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Ramsey County District Court.
McDougal underwent a double mastectomy after doctors informed her last May that she had an aggressive form of cancer. McDougal, however, didn't have cancer. The diagnosis was based on a lab mix-up that confused her tissue with another woman's.
The defendants are pathologist Margaret Cochrane and her employer, Hospital Pathology Associates. Cochrane told KSTP-TV there was "no question" she made a mistake and she wants to apologize to McDougal.
Club promoted overcrowding before fire Some lawyers are alleging the owners of a Rhode Island nightclub that burst into flames in February promoted its capacity as being much higher than it actually was.
The lawyers represent people who are considering lawsuits stemming from the fire, which killed 99 people at a concert by the band Great White. They base their allegations on an unsigned contract they say was recently found in the rubble of The Station in West Warwick.
They say the document shows the owners promoted the club's capacity as 550 for the concert. Town officials have said the maximum capacity was just over 400 if all the furniture was removed. No one knows how many people were there the night of the fire.
A lawyer for one of the two brothers who own the club is asking why state investigators didn't turn up the document earlier.
