College campuses keeping busy

Almost 40,000 people are expected to visit or use area colleges this summer including St. Cloud State University, St. Cloud Technical College, the College of St. Benedict and St. John's University. After the school year, colleges are kept busy preparing for sports camps, conferences and recreational activities. Summer offers colleges an opportunity to generate additional revenue and showcase what they have to offer.
The first of 25 to 30 summer camps began Monday at SCSU. About 30 people were on campus for the week-long RecKids Summer Fun Day Camp. SCSU and other colleges do not mind having community members using their facilities when school is not in session.
"The facilities are built by the state, and they certainly should be used by people in the state," said Ron Seibring, director of sports facilities and campus recreation at SCSU.
