Security Council discusses Iraq Foreign ministers of the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council ( United States, Britain, Russia, France and China) met in Geneva, Switzerland to discuss the future of Iraq.
While the U.S. wants to select a governing council to make an Iraqi constitution and hold elections, France and Germany want to see all of the authority transferred to the Iraqi people. Though all members of the Security Council agree that the Iraqi people should receive the necessary power to govern themselves, they disagree with the U.S. on how the transfer of power should take place and when it should be done. They also agree with the United States' control of military power but not over the personal lives of Iraqi people.
Hurricane Isabel to strike East Coast East Coast states are being asked by the National Hurricane Center to check their hurricane plans and get educated on what to do if a hurricane were to strike their community. This is in response to the Center's forecast that Hurricane Isabel will likely hit the East Coast within the week. Residents between North Carolina and New Jersey are said to be the most at risk.
Hurricane Isabel has reported top winds of 155 mph and has twice been labeled a Category 5 hurricane, the highest rating. Hurricane Andrew was the last Category 5 Hurricane to hit the U.S. back in 1992 and is still considered the most costly natural disaster in U.S. history, killing over 40 people and causing millions of dollars worth of property damage.
East Coast residents have begun stockpiling supplies and are even moving away from their coastal homes to safer locations.
