SCSU still faces parking problems Although 16,000 students attend SCSU, parking lots are only equipped to hold little over 4,000 vehicles. The university has requested money to build a parking ramp to house 500 parking spaces, but even if the request goes through, a new ramp would not be available until 2006.
Students are being forced to park on residential streets off-campus or buy a city permit for $225. The director of public services for the city, Stephen Gaetz, believes charging for city permits is only fair considering students already pay for using campus lots.
By next fall, the university will have up to 60 new spots, a result of purchasing a demolished house and vacant lot.
Train collides with car killing four In Anoka, authorities told friends and family members that the four young adults most likely died instantly when their car was split in two by an oncoming freight train. The group was apparently trying to beat the train across the tracks when the accident occurred.
A railroad spokesman said the gates guarding the tracks are activated to lower and block traffic when the train is 20 seconds from crossing. He also said the gates and flashers were working properly before the accident.
Police reported the four passengers to be riding in a two-door Chevrolet Cavalier, but the car was barely recognizable when police arrived on the scene.
