Huskies tailgate

Husky fans of all ages enjoyed various tailgating activities Saturday at Selke Field.
The event was the third annual tailgate fund-raiser for the Dogg Pound Club. Football fans purchased food and pop and the profits turned out to be fairly successful.
"It was a good time and we sold a lot of stuff," said Heather Gillen, secretary of the Dogg Pound Club.
The Dogg Pound organized the tailgate party to raise money for their road trips. Members of the Dogg Pound worked the stands and a parking staff directed traffic.
The Husky Bookstore, Coborn's, Space Aliens and Applebee's were among those that supplied merchandise and gifts. The Dogg Pound organized games and KMXK Mix 94.9 radio provided music.
A large number of students came by taxi, a little bit after the event's 11 a.m. start.
Some of the students were still boozed up from going to the morning bar activities. Red-eyed with slurred speech, they soaked up the alcohol in their bellies with brats and chips.
Two hundred people showed up for the pregame celebration and enjoyed great weather. Husky fans gathered around and socialized with one another. Many kicked back their feet and enjoyed a cold beverage.
"It's fun to just sit in the sun and pound beers before the game," said sophomore Adam Walker.
A few cars got stuck in the park's sandy ground. Good-natured fans had fun pushing out the unfortunate drivers. "Yeah, I'm kind of getting tired of pushing out people who get buried in the sand," said parking staff member Kevin Macdonald.
The Huskies won the game and many celebrated in the park after the game. Fans roared in celebration all over the park. Others decided to participate in the celebration that was going on inside the field.
A "Salute to Selke Field" was held after the game to commemorate the last game to be played by the huskies on Selke Field. The 66-year-old granite-walled landmark will be replaced by the new multi-purpose stadium that will be ready for use next year. Selke Field was officially opened homecoming 1937.
The activities were co-sponsored by Bernick's Pepsi. A student brass band led the "Rouser."
Kids had fun at the "Husky Tattoo Parlor."People signed up for prizes at the stands that were set up. Food and beverages were purchased from O'Hara's restaurant stand. "I liked the little gathering, especially my $7 brat," said junior Jake Meyer.
