Laura Johnson rides her horse "Dair" during the homecoming parade Saturday morning. The parade consisted of student organizations and fraternities.
Only a select few showed up for the third annual homecoming parade that took place on Fifth Avenue Saturday at 11 a.m.
Campus organizations that participated included the Homecoming Court, the Greek Council, the Dogg Pound, Equestrian Team and UPB.
The parade was very short, only lasting about five minutes. Some of the floats threw candy and others just waved.
The parade was sponsored by the Greek Council. Out of about 200 clubs and organizations at SCSU, only about 13 showed their support with a float in the parade.
"There's about 200 organizations and only a few showed up to support SCSU. That's pathetic," second-year student Amber Roth said.
Just after the parade started a giant inflatable gorilla toppled from the Phi Kappa Tau float. It was the highlight of the parade to some.
"It was entertaining because I was watching the people try to put the gorilla back up," said 1976 Alumnus Dan Rassier.
A few enjoyed the parade including Karen Pollock, mother of Kappa Eta Kappa's member Kyle Pollock.
"This was the first time that I've come to a homecoming parade at SCSU," she said. "I came along way...it was worth the trip."
Senior Kristen Hoescher gave props to the students that designed the floats.
"There were a lot of homemade floats, very original," Hoescher said.
Many enjoyed the candy.
"The candy was awesome,"said second-year student Erin Hoescher.
Others thought that the parade needed more.
"There was not enough floats and that made the parade short. I only went because my roommate was riding her horse in it," second-year student Andrea Schrempp said.
Senior Trista Smith said, "I've seen homecoming parades at colleges that are a fourth the size of SCSU but their parades look like the Rose Bowl parade compared to SCSU's homecoming parade."
Upon leaving the parade, second-year student Brittany Forest said, "That sucked!" and walked back to a friend's apartment.
