SCSU beat by UMD

The SCSU women's hockey team was swept 8-3, 9-3 by the No. 5 ranked University of Duluth Bulldogs in their series at the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center over the weekend.

Friday night the Huskies would battle to tie the game at 3-3 in the second period thanks to goals by Tina Ciraulo, Roxy Stang and Carrie Holldorf.

UMD then scored three consecutive goals before the end of the period, and put the game away in the third period with two more.

The Huskies took 11 penalties in the game and were outshot 55-17.

SCSU goalie Lauri St. Jacques made 47 saves in the loss.

SCSU would again battle to tie the game at 3-3 in the second period after goals by Lindsay Ball, Kobi Kawamoto and Roxy Stang. However, UMD would score six more goals to bury the Huskies for the second straight night.

UMD's Jenny Potter scored five goals in the game. She had a total of six goals on the weekend.

The Huskies were outshot for the second straight night, 42-30.

The loss moves the Huskies to 6-15-1 (3-12-1 WCHA) and UMD moved up to 8-5-1 (17 points) in the WCHA, securing them the third spot in the conference standings behind the University of Minnesota and the University of Wisconsin.

The Huskies will host Wisconsin Jan. 30-31 at the NHC.
