With rumors of tuition hikes, budget cuts and an agenda for SCSU to pull out of Minnesota State University Student Association (MSUSA), this year's Lobby Day took a different approach than the common full-on barrage on the capitol. The SCSU student government took an intimate agenda to 2003-04 biennial legislative sessions Wednesday to lobby and meet with seven of 10 representatives from the area.
Some students are not familiar with who the Vice President of Student Life and Development is, but he affects every student's life. Nathan Church came to SCSU in the summer of 2001 after working at the Southern California University of Health Sciences.
The arrest of convicted sex offender Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. in connection with the November 2003 disappearance of UND student Dru Sjodin has helped jump-start discussion about current sentencing standards for sex offenders. Public opinion over the Sjodin case has led government officials to question the effectiveness of determinate sentencing.
What is college life really all about? Women on Wednesday sponsored a panel at noon in Atwood Theater called, "College Life Uncensored." Sherburne Hall Director Andrea Lawrence and Amy Nord, a hall director from University of Wisconsin-Stout, spoke to students on issues such as alcohol, drugs, eating disorders and unprotected sex.
