Poets to play Atwood
By John Behling
Published:
Monday, March 29, 2004
Eight SCSU poets will perform as the collective "Death by Syntax," Wednesday, 7 p.m. at the Atwood Quarry.
The group continues the tradition set by last semester's "The Paper Weights," who also performed their music and poetry at the Atwood Quarry. Like their predecessors, "Death by Syntax" is a group of SCSU English students advised by professor William Meissner.
"It's just so good being able to get together with other writers who understand," said member Bethany Frenette.
The group meets to discuss and critique each other's poetry.
Frenette said she enjoys being able to talk seriously with other writers and from the group she can "get actual critiques, not just 'oh it's wonderful,'" Frenette said.
Recently the group has been rehearsing for the upcoming show. The show will consist of performances from each member of the group, along with music performed on guitar by member Joe Hager.
There will also be some performance of flash fiction - brief, easily absorbed and concise short stories.
