Hip-hop arrives

I have lived in St. Cloud all my life and I have seen the punkstyle pass through and the gangsta thing pass through.
Now the scene that is hitting this town is hip-hop. Saturday night, St. Cloud will host some of the groups that may be the next Wu-Tang Clan or Quannum Crew with The Lyrical Pedestrianz, The Locals and The Dialogue Elevators playing at 8 p.m. at the Java Joint.
This will be the first time The Lyrical Pedestrianz has come to St. Cloud. They just played a show last weekend with Tech N9ne at the Quest and a show with the one and only V-Ice last month. Now they are doing their rounds in our little town.
I had a chance to speak with Phatty McGee, an emcee in The Lyrical Pedestrianz.
I found out a lot about a group that seems to be hitting the Midwest hard.
The group started about a year ago, but McGee has been in other hip-hop groups, including the Loonatik Klick.
"The other two members, MC Rentz and DC, were involved in various projects and were in a group known as Dirty Pool," McGee said.
McGee said it was hard to pinpoint where everyone was from.
They currently have one album out called, "Smoke for the Sun," and one EP that was given out for free.
The EP is now out of print, so if you are interested in hearing this group, you can go to their Web site, www.loonatix.com.
"To have a group come from Minnesota and make it would be huge, we would like to be a part of it. Atmosphere is laying the ground work right now," McGee said. "We just need to be a part of it."
With their main influences coming from classic rappers such as Dr. Dre and Snoop, McGee is not only about the hip-hop realm. He grew up on Jimi Hendrix, The Doors and CCR. This makes out for a collaboration of the classics from many genres.
Along with McGee and his crew, some more flavor will come from St. Cloud's The Locals, that will tongue-twist your brain with their lyrical talents.
Three hip-hoppers from St. Paul, known as the Dialogue Elevators will lift you to the sky.
This is not your local garage group of rappers. All of these artists have skills, and they will put you into a trance with the speed and agility of their free flows.
So being that this is the first show of The Lyrical Pedestrians, combined with the fast flowing Dialogue Elevators and those local boys most just call The Locals, this show is not one to miss.
