Conboy signed
Published:

After being released by the SCSU hockey team in the off-season due to a team violation, Tim Conboy made the best of his situation by reaching a deal with the San Jose Sharks Thursday.
The former sophomore defenseman and his agent Ben Hankinson (former Gopher and NHL forward) signed a two-year, two-way contract that included a $125,000 signing bonus with the Sharks and its American Hockey League affiliate Cleveland Barons. Conboy didn't waste any time after finalizing the contract and immediately started practicing with the Barons, who he'll join in their playoff race against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Although he didn't play in the Barons' series tying win in game two Sunday, Conboy has a pretty clear plan of how he'll make a name for himself on the team.
"I'll be so nervous for my first shift, I'll probably have to get in a fight to get the nerves out," said Conboy, who earned a reputation as the Huskies' enforcer over the last two years, racking up 130 penalty minutes. "They want me to play the same way and fight if I have to."
Conboy will earn $50,000 and $75,000 progressively over the next two years if he remains in the AHL, but he'll make $450,000 and $475,000 if he breaks into the Sharks' lineup in the NHL.
