The old drunk men will lead us to... stuff?
By Bobby Hart

It seemed like just another late Tuesday night slaving over tables at a local St. Cloud restaurant. Little did I know the night was about to get a whole lot more interesting as six 40-50 year-old men moved from the bar to sit in my section.
As double Windsor Cokes and drambucas washed down their meals, I found myself in the middle of the most entertaining political debate I've ever heard. The dialog resembled what you would here in a Minnesota icehouse after a case of beer:
Drunk Democrat: I don't know about dis whole war ting. We gotta get those guys otta Iraq soon.
Drunk Republican: If we pull them guys otta der now, the whole world will tink wer panzies. We gotta finish strong! Buuurp.
Drunk Democrat: That cud take forever. We don't need another Nam.
Me: Do you guys need more ketchup?
Drunk Democrat: We don't even know who we're fighting. At least get our guys off da ground. Aye?
Guy in corner (trying desperately to stay neutral): I'll have more ketchup please.
Drunk Democrat: Say, more drinks too.
Me (Saying in my head): Damn.
Me (returning with drinks and ketchup): Was the food alright guys?
Drunk Republican: You betcha. Say, we need to just drop grenades down all da gopher holes to get dem damn terrorists.
Guy in corner: Check please.
The point of displaying this dialog isn't to poke fun at democrats, republicans or alcohol, but rather to touch on something that is often overlooked. America has such an exclamation point on the importance of young voters making educated decisions for the 2004 election, that we often forget about those who've been voting for the last 10-30 years.
These are often the same people who have the tendency to narrow mindedly vote for the same party every election year, without looking into specific issues. You people are the majority and the leaders of our country right now. Try to act like it.
