Police say man shot himself after collisions

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- A St. Cloud man apparently killed himself after being involved in a series of traffic crashes, authorities said. Police said Andrew Leason, 23, was driving the wrong way on University Drive Monday night when he had three separate collisions.

Guard members return home from Iraq

ST. CLOUD, Minn. -- More than 400 people welcomed home the 68 soldiers of Company A of the 1-194th Armor Battalion from duty in Iraq Tuesday night at the Whitney Recreation Center. All 152 members of the 1-194th Armor survived their security mission operating out of Camp Ashraf, just north of Baghdad.

Convicted murderer denied law career

PHOENIX, Ariz. -- A convicted murderer who graduated from law school after getting out of prison was denied admission to the bar yesterday by the Arizona Supreme Court because of a lack of "good moral character.'' James Hamm, who served 17 years for his part in a drug-related robbery that left two men dead, had asked the court to allow him to practice law even though the state bar association had recommended against his application.

96 missing after coal mine blast in China

TANGSHAN, China -- A coal mine explosion yesterday in northern China resulted in at least 96 workers missing. This is the third disaster in recent weeks involving scores of miners. The explosion occurred in a mine in Tangshan, a city in Hebei province, when 123 miners were underground.
