Alcohol policy under review

When Stearns Hall RA Anthony Dunkel confiscates alcohol,  he pours it down the drain.  SCSU administration has proposed making changes to the on-campus alcohol policy.
SCSU administration and other groups are currently working on changes to the alcohol policy that regulates students and campus organizations.

University President Roy Saigo issued a charge to Student Life and Development Vice President Nathan Church, ADAPT (Alcohol and Drug Awareness and Prevention Team) and student government to form a task force that would author a more narrow and specific alcohol policy.

SCSU mourns

Thursday afternoon brought the loss of a SCSU student. Matt Wallace was found unconscious by friends Tuesday afternoon in his room in Mitchell Hall.

An ambulance was immediately called to the scene and Wallace was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital, where he died two days later.

Students vote for change in 2005-06

With 446 votes, Joseph Dolan and Dana Kutcher will be the next student government president and vice president.

Dolan said his calm, impartial demeanor makes him the perfect person for the job.

"I'm the best candidate because I have no agenda," Dolan said.

Some angered at racino proposal

Gov. Tim Pawlenty and other legislators claim a Canterbury Park Racino is the answer to the state budget deficit, but most Indian tribes disagree.

The proposed racino bill involves Canterbury Park and three Northern Indian tribes. The state is expected to get a cut of $164 million or more annually once the two casinos are fully operating.

OPAA promotes awareness

With AIDS rapidly becoming one of the world's biggest killers, some SCSU students are trying to do something about it.

��OPAA (Organization for Prevention of AIDS in Africa) is a group that is committed to educating people about AIDS, both as a disease and as a global epidemic.

Swimming lessons teach valuable skills

For some community members, summer swim lessons are bound to provide more than just a splash in the pool.

Adapted aquatics lessons are being taught for free this June and July in Halenbeck Hall for children with disabilities age 3 through 16. The Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sport Science is coordinating the program, which is divided into two sessions of eight classes.

Advisor resigns

Emotions heightened at the student government meeting Thursday when members motioned to censure president Hal Kimball. The amendment failed by a narrow margin.

Diana Burlison also resigned from her position as advisor of the student government.

She said she was not retiring because of the controversies surrounding student government this year, but that it was time for a change.
