The SCSU student government broke the news of the overwhelming support from its student body to withdraw from MSUSA during the MSUSA Presidential Board of Directors meeting over the weekend. SCSU hosted the three-day event that opened with a Presidential Board of Directors conference slated for Friday in the Atwood Little Theater Lounge with a call from State Chair holder Sam Edmund.
Students came out in large numbers last week to voice their opinion in the student vote, which pleased Cory Lawrence and Rachel Hughes, president and vice president of student government. "We got more people voting in the first day than we did for presidential elections last year," Lawrence said.
Currently, there are over 900 study abroad students from 85 different countries attending SCSU. To help manage these integrating students, Sarah Speir has been hired as the new director for international student and scholar services. A new course will be offered in the spring to teach St. Cloud students about etiquette and communication. The course is called "A Century of Communication Advice" and will be offered as a communication studies 312 class. Professor Jeff Ringer is teaching the course.
